Pediatric Speech and Occupational Therapy
At Senses Therapies we believe in treating the whole child. That means we look beyond a narrow definition of success and strive to create long-term, meaningful accomplishments that results in happy and healthy children. By creating therapeutic activities that focus on the whole child we make sure your child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. We believe children learn best when engaged in play and movement, which is why we always strive to engage your child’s senses. It’s more than just a belief for us, it’s the driving philosophy behind our treatment plans.
Because we are dual specialty practice, we are able to co-treat, allowing your child to receive both speech and occupational therapy. Speech and occupational therapy should support one another, and by co-treating with Senses Therapies you can ensure a seamless treatment plan.
We are a private therapy practice, meaning your child receives 1:1 instruction with their therapist. Flexible scheduling allows our therapists to visit your child at home or at school, whichever is more convenient. For your convenience, we provide detailed billing statements so you may individually file with your insurance company.

What is Speech Therapy?
Speech therapy focuses on improving your child’s speech and their ability to understand and express language, including nonverbal language. Common speech diagnoses we treat include:
If your child has a speech diagnosis that’s not on the above list, please reach out to us! With over 20 years of experience, we’ve treated many wonderful children who are as unique as their speech. We’d love to discuss how we can help your child.

What is sensory processing disorder?
Sensory processing disorder (SPD) is a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses. Some people with SPD are oversensitive to things in their environment. For example, common sounds may be painful or overwhelming. SPD occurs within a broad spectrum of severity. While most of us have occasional difficulties processing sensory information, for those with SPD, these difficulties are chronic and can significantly disrupt everyday life.

How can occupational therapy help?
Occupational therapy is a very broad term. We work with children on fine motor skills, including reach, grasp and release activities needed to play, hold a pencil and other school tools. Additionally, OT encompasses the hand-eye coordination used to play and engage with peers and mastering basic self-help tasks and life skills. We also treat behavioral disorders. For example, instead of hitting, we work with children to develop and use alternative ways to express their feelings. We can also help with sensory and attention issues to improve focus for school and quality of life functioning within a family unit. As you can see, OT encompasses a lot and there are even more things we can help with. If you’re wondering if OT is a good fit for your child, please reach out to us.
